In the last twenty-five years Alternative Dispute Resolution has become an essential part of practicing law. Whether it’s a personal injury claim, property dispute, partnership dispute, construction site dispute or family dispute, mediation is used across this spectrum to resolve civil claims and avoid protracted litigation. The program’s panel of experts will guide attendees through ways to prepare for and participate in mediations, including the following topics:

• Choosing the right mediator
• Preparing the paperwork and setting up the mediation date
• Preparing the mediation memo-what to put in and what to leave out
• Preparing the client-managing the client’s expectations.
• Plaintiff lawyer’s do’s and don’t’s during the mediation
• Defendant Lawyer’s do’s and don’t’s during the mediation
• Pre-Mediation Conferences to avoid surprises before the actual mediation date
• To Powerpoint or not to Powerpoint. Pros and cons.
• Effective Opening Statements, examples
• Frequently Asked Questions

This program is designed to benefit all attorneys who are litigating now or who will be litigating in the future as part of their practices. The program will also be valuable for attorneys who have already participated in mediations as a tool to sharpen their skills.
